This eight-hour course is designed for those with previous glacier travel experience and crevasse rescue training who need to review and update their skills. The course is held in a classroom or park rather than on a glacier to maximize learning time. Students are encouraged to bring recording devices such as digital cameras and cell phones that can be used to document the material for later review and practice. Students are expected to be proficient in the following skills: Self arrest with and without an ice axe, roping-up for glacier travel, placing snow and ice protection, equalizing anchors, and knots and hitches used in crevasse rescue. Students who do not yet have the requisite skills and experience should consider taking our Crevasse Rescue Course or our Mountaineering Skills Course. Students looking for advanced skills such as rescuing climbers with large packs and sleds, rescuing a middle climber who has fallen into a crevasse, building load-releasable systems, and increasing mechanical advantage should look at our Advanced Crevasse Rescue Course.
